Project 1000 is very much a family business, as Andrew is supported by his eldest daughter, Ellen.
Andrew has spent a lifetime, literally, in education. Born and brought up in a boarding school, he was a boarder at Winchester House School and Uppingham School. He studied at Newcastle University where he gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Geography and went into teaching, gaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from South Bank University.
After a career of more than 30 years living and working in independent boarding schools, Andrew has built up a huge amount of leadership and management experience through the wide variety of different roles that he has undertaken:
Terra Nova School (2009-2014), Bramcote School (2003-2009), Loretto Nippers (1999-2001)
Boarding Schools' Association
International Director (2019), Director of Training & International (2017-2019)
Salisbury Cathedral School (2014-2015), Bramcote School (2001-2003), Winchester House School (1997-1999)
Director of Development
Salisbury Cathedral School (2015-2017)
Winchester House (1995-1997)
Queen Margaret’s, York (2004-2009), St Martin’s CofE, Scarborough (2003-2009)
Andrew also gained extensive experience in other areas:
Local Safeguarding Children Board Member - Scarborough, Whitby & Ryedale and Cheshire East
Independent Association of Prep Schools - Sport & Recreation and Membership Committees
Independent Schools Inspectorate - Team Inspector
Andrew is at his happiest playing and watching sport. He is a member of the MCC and plays golf at Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club. In the past, he played cricket for the MCC, Uppingham Rovers CC, Northampton Saints CC, Rugby CC, Brixham CC and, for a very brief time, Leicestershire CCC. He was also a qualified RFU referee and coach. Nowadays, he likes nothing better than taking Tilly, the family’s black Labrador, for a run!
Ellen was born and raised in an educational environment, attending Bramcote School (with her father as her Headmaster!), then, as a boarder, at Uppingham School and finally Sedbergh School in Cumbria. With A-levels in Design Technology, Graphics and Physical Education, she decided to go straight into the world of work.
She first worked as Office Site Manager for Havana Wests’ development project, before working for Jewsons, Build Aviator and, latterly, Travis Perkins. She has trained with the Pitman Group to become an Executive Assistant and has now set up her own business with SMART PA, providing ‘virtual’ administration and business support. She is a highly professional and efficient personal assistant with considerable experience within the construction sector and managing SMEs.
Ellen also has her own story to tell. Disaffected with school life, she found the emotional pressures on her to be difficult to handle and, after some poor life choices, she bravely opened up to her family and sought professional help. Since then, she has had a strong passion for supporting others within business making sure that they get the right work/life balance, so that they don’t fall into the same place that she, or her father, did.
She now owns her own home in Torquay with her partner and their dog, Merlin.
